Bio

Mark Huelsman is in his fourth season as head coach of the Ohio Northern women's basketball program in 2023-24.

He was tabbed to lead the program on July 23, 2019, when previous head coach Michele Durand announced her retirement from coaching at the end of the season.

During the 2022-23 season, Huelsman led the Polar Bears to a sweep of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships en route to a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament, where they advanced to the Sweet 16. He was named OAC Coach of the Year and D3hoops.com Region 7 Coach of the Year, and the team ranked as high as No. 10 nationally in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 11 in the WBCA poll.

Also in the 2022-23 season, Huelsman oversaw the development of point guard Brynn Serbin, who was named OAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and D3hoops.com Region 7 Player of the Year and earned recognition as a D3hoops.com Second Team All-American and spots on the WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team and Women's Collegiate All-Star Team.

As an assistant under Durand, Huelsman was heavily involved in all aspects of the Polar Bear women's basketball program as an assist coach for seven seasons from 2013-19, including post-player development, recruitment, and serving as head coach of the junior varsity team.

As an assistant, Huelsman helped coach the program to four OAC Regular Season championships, a conference tournament championship and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including an Elite 8 berth during the 2016-17 season. He also helped develop five First Team All-OAC post players, including two OAC Players of the Year, two D3Hoops.com All-Americans and two WBCA Honorable Mention All-American post players.

Prior to Ohio Northern, Huelsman worked as an assistant coach at fellow OAC institution Wilmington.

He graduated from Wittenberg in 2007 where he was a three-time letterwinner for the men's basketball team as well as a member of the 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament runner-up team.

Huelsman is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

He resides with his wife, Lauren, in Marion, Ohio.
