Women's Basketball falls 63-55 at Capital

COLUMBUS — Fifth-year senior All-American Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led the Ohio Northern women's basketball team with 15 points as the Polar Bears fell 63-55 at Capital on Saturday afternoon.

The Game
- Serbin added five rebounds, one assist and one steal to her 15 points.
- Junior Abby Dickson (Germantown/Valley View) had 10 points and three assists off the bench.
- Bri O'Connor led the Comets in scoring with 24 points.
- The score was tied at 10-all at the end of the first quarter.
- Capital opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and outscored ONU 15-9 in the period to take a 25-19 halftime edge.
- The Comets grew their lead to 10, 33-23, with 7:24 left in the third quarter and led 42-36 going into the fourth.
- A 3-pointer from Serbin got the Polar Bears within six, 52-46, with 4:06 remaining, but Capital answered with a triple from Demi Brewer on the next possession en route to the victory.
- Ohio Northern made 23-of-61 field goals for 37.7% and was 5-of-28 from beyond the arc for 17.9%, while Capital was 20-of-57 from the floor for 35.1% and made 8-of-22 3-pointers for 36.4%.
- ONU made 4-of-9 free throws for 44.4%, and CU was 15-of-22 from the line for 68.2%.
- The Comets out-rebounded the Polar Bears by a 39-38 margin.
Notables
- Dickson matched her single-game career-high scoring total. She also recorded 10 points in a game against Capital during her sophomore season.
- Northern is now 40-59 all-time against Capital, including a 13-39 mark in Columbus. ONU had won four straight meetings entering Saturday.
- Serbin is the reigning OAC Player of the Week.
- Serbin is ONU's all-time leader in career steals with 258 and assists with 340.
- Serbin ranks 10th on ONU's all-time career scoring list with 1,106 points. She ranks fourth all-time with 158 made 3-pointers in her career, is 13th all-time in made free throws with 192, is 15th all-time in rebounds with 514 and 16th all-time with 378 made field goals.
- Serbin is the only women's basketball player in ONU history to tally at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in her career.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 57-27 at Ohio Northern for a winning percentage of .679.
