Akamine scores career-high 23 points to lead Women's Basketball to 69-50 win at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — Junior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 69-50 win at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Game
- Akamine made a trio of 3-pointers and was one of three double-figure scorers for the Polar Bears on Saturday.
- Junior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) scored 14 points to go with 11 from freshman Chloee Glenn (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf).
- Senior Peyton Warnecke (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) recorded a team-high eight rebounds for ONU.
- Reese Triplett and Ali Hudik led the Purple Raiders in scoring with eight points each.
- Northern led 20-15 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Mount Union 22-9 in the second for a 42-24 halftime lead.
- The Polar Bears took their first double-digit lead of the game at 31-20 on a 2-point jumper from Akamine with 5:23 left in the second quarter,
- An and-1 from Glenn made put ONU up 38-22 with 2:41 left in the opening half.
- Junior Layla Dials (Willard) capped the first-half scoring with four points over the final 1:05 to give ONU the 18-point halftime edge.
- ONU led 54-37 going into the fourth quarter en route to the victory.
- Ohio Northern made 31-of-71 field goals for 43.7% and was 3-of-17 from beyond the arc for 17.6%, while UMU was 21-of-50 from the floor for 42% and made 5-of-24 3-pointers for 20.8%.
- ONU made 4-of-10 free throws for 40%, and UMU was 3-of-4 from the line for 75%.
- The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Purple Raiders 42-26.
- ONU finished with a 21-5 edge in second-chance points and 48-26 in points in the paint.

- Akamine's previous career-high for points in a game was 14.
- Glenn's 11 points also marked a career best.
- Warnecke's eight rebounds marked a single-game career high.
- The Polar Bears are off to a 3-0 start in OAC play for the second straight season and are the defending OAC regular-season and tournament champions.
- Ohio Northern is now 32-14 all-time against Mount Union, including a 20-21 mark in Alliance. ONU has now won eight straight meetings.
- Fifth-year senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) is ONU's all-time leader in career steals with 240 and ranks second in program history with 316 career assists. Cenzie Yoder ('11-'14) holds the program's all-time career assists record with 318.
- Serbin ranks 16th on ONU's all-time career scoring list with 1,008 points. She ranks fifth all-time with 144 made 3-pointers in her career, is tied for 15th all-time in made free throws with 182 and is 17th all-time in rebounds with 478.
- Serbin is 18 made field goals away from breaking into the top 20 of the program's all-time list in that category.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 53-24 at Ohio Northern.
