Serbin surpasses 1,000 career points to lead Women's Basketball to 66-47 win over Heidelberg

ADA — Fifth-year senior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) surpassed 1,000 career points Wednesday night to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 66-47 victory over visiting Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference game.

The Game
- Serbin led ONU with 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
- Junior Brooke Allen (Woodville/Woodmore) added 12 points and six rebounds.
- Junior Abi Akamine (Lahaina, Hawaii/Lahainaluna) posted 12 points, two rebounds and three steals.
- Elisha Carter led the Student Princes with 13 points.
- The Polar Bears opened the game with an 8-0 run with four points from Akamine and two each from Allen and junior Layla Dials (Willard).
- An and-1 from Dials put ONU up 19-3 with 2:08 left in the first quarter.
- Northern led 21-11 at the end of the opening period and outscored HU 12-7 in the second for a 33-18 halftime edge.
- HU cut the deficit to seven in the third quarter, but ONU extended its lead back to 11, 50-39, going into the fourth en route to the victory.
- Ohio Northern made 27-of-76 field goals for 35.5% and was 3-of-20 from beyond the arc for 15%, while HU was 17-of-46 from the floor for 37% and made 9-of-25 3-pointers for 36%.
- ONU made 9-of-14 free throws for 64.3%, and HU was 4-of-5 from the line for 80%.
- The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Student Princes 47-34 and forced Heidelberg into 23 turnovers
- ONU finished with a 46-12 edge in points in the paint and 20-0 in points off turnovers.

- The Polar Bears are off to a 2-0 start in OAC play for the second straight season.
- Ohio Northern is now 61-26 all-time against Heidelberg, including a 33-11 mark at home.
- Serbin is ONU's all-time leader in career steals with 239 and ranks second in program history with 314 career assists. Cenzie Yoder ('11-'14) holds the program's all-time career assists record with 318.
- Serbin ranks 17th on ONU's all-time career scoring list with 1,004 points. She ranks fifth all-time with 144 made 3-pointers in her career, is tied for 15th all-time in made free throws with 182 and is 17th all-time in rebounds with 472.
- Serbin is 20 made field goals away from breaking into the top 20 of the program's all-time list in that category.
- Fourth-year head coach Mark Huelsman is now 52-24 at Ohio Northern.
