Serbin's first career double-double leads Women's Basketball to a 54-39 victory at Heidelberg

TIFFIN — Junior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) posted her first career double-double that guided the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a 54-39 victory at Heidelberg Wednesday night in Seiberling Gymnasium.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the Student Princes fall to 3-12 and 2-6.
Serbin and sophomore Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) led the team with 10 points each, while Serbin had a career high with 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career.
Senior Alissa Stahler (Lima/Shawnee) added 7 points to the ONU scoring attack.
Lily and Anika Sweeney led Heidelberg in scoring with six points apiece.
With the first quarter ending in a 12-12 tie, the Polar Bears finished the last 2:33 of the half on a 6-0 run with two three-pointers by Serbin to lead at halftime 26-20.
ONU opened the second half on an 8-2 run to lead 36-23 2:53 into the half.
Heidelberg responded with a 5-0 run to cut the score to 38-28 with 2:08 remaining in the third quarter, but the lead would never return to single digits.
The Polar Bears outscored the Student Princes 11-9 in the fourth quarter to close out the victory.
Ohio Northern made 20-of-56 field goals for 35.7% and was 6-of-19 from 3-point range for 31.6%, while Heidelberg made 14-of-8 field goals for 24.1% and were 4-of-24 from beyond the arc for 16.7%.
ONU was 8-for-10 for 80% at the foul line and HU shot 7-for-10 for 70%.
The Polar Bears led the battle on the boards 47-34.
Ohio Northern returns to the ONU Sports Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. against another Ohio Athletic Conference opponent No. 16-ranked Marietta as part of a women's-men's doubleheader.
