BEREA — Sophomore Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) tied a career-high with 14 points as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell 59-42 at No. 12-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday at Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (10-4 overall, 4-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) also got 11 points and six rebounds from senior Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local).
The Yellow Jackets (13-1, 7-0) got 10 points from Megan Scheibelhut and Gabby Garrett to stay in first place in the league.
BW out-scored ONU 17-5 in the second quarter, including a 7-0 run in the final 5:24 of the period, to grab a 33-19 lead at intermission.
Jacobs scored just four seconds into the third period, but BW would get the next four points to extend the lead to 37-21.
Northern battled back to within 49-39 with 6:45 left in the game on a 3-pointer by Jacobs, but the hosts would score the game's next 10 points to go up 59-39 with 2:02 to play.
Ohio Northern made 14-of-56 field goal attempts for 25.0 percent and was 4-of-23 from three-point range for 17.4 percent, while Baldwin Wallace was 23-of-52 from the floor for 44.2 percent and was 5-of-22 from beyond the arc for 22.7 percent.
ONU out-rebounded BW 38-37.
The Polar Bears will return home on Saturday and will face Marietta at 3 pm at the ONU Sports Center in the first game of a women's/men's double header.
