ADA — Senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) posted the 32nd double-double of her career, but a 19-point second half deficit was too much to overcome in as the No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell at Capital 84-76 on Saturday afternoon at the Capital Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 17-2 overall and stay on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference with an 11-1 record.
The Crusaders improve to 10-9, 6-6.
Bullimore finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds, senior Lindsey Black (Urbana/Graham) added 14 points and junior Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll ) chipped in 13 for Ohio Northern.
Elie Folan scored a game-high 26 points to lead Capital.
CU led 23-14 after 10 minutes and stretched the lead to 39-20 with 6:07 left in the second quarter.
Northern ended the half on a 16-0 run to pull within 39-36 at intermission.
A basket by Dirksen to start the second half completed the 18-0 run and trimmed the deficit to 39-38.
But an 8-0 run by Capital pushed the lead back to 62-51 with 1:01 left in the third.
The lead bounced between eight and 11 points for much of the fourth quarter until a basket by Bullimore trimmed the lead to 75-69 with 2:16 to play and a 3-pointer from Dirksen made it 76-72 with 1:43 to go.
But the Crusaders would go 8-for-8 from the foul line the rest of the way to ice the game and snap Ohio Northern's 17-game winning streak.
The loss also ended Northern's streak of OAC regular season victories at 37, dating back to the 2015-16 campaign, where ONU fell to No. 17-ranked Capital on Jan. 23, 2016.
ONU was 29-of-54 (53.7 percent) from the field, including 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) from the 3-point line, while the Crusaders were 27-of-49 (55.1 percent) from the field, and a red-hit 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from 3-point range.
The Polar Bears won the battle on the glass by a 30-21 margin.
Northern will return to action on Wednesday with a 7;30 p.m. contest at Baldwin Wallace.
