Sophomore Amy Bullimore records a double double to lead the No. 11-ranked Women's Basketball team past Heidelberg

ADA — The No. 11-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team extended its win streak to 12 games as it defeated Heidelberg 61-51 Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 14-2 overall, 9-0 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Heidleberg falls to 6-10, 4-5.
Northern was led in the contest by sophomore Amy Bullimore, who recorded her third double double of the season and the sixth of her career. Bullimore finished the contest with a game-high 12 rebounds and 14 points.
Senior Carly Thomas added a game-high 18 points and junior Britt Lauck chipped in 10 points.
The Polar Bears would lead by as many as nine in the first quarter as senior Brooke Espenschied would sink a free throw with under a minute to play to give ONU the 15-6 advantage.
Heidelberg would respond cutting the deficit to 17-9 after one quarter of play.
Following a three from Ohio Northern's Thomas, Heidelberg would string together a small run to start the second quarter to pull within 20-13 with 8:15 to play.
The Polar Bears would combat the run as junior Angela Tesny would connect from three to extend the ONU lead to 23-13.
Theresa Jackson would score six points in the final two minutes for the Student Princes to cut the ONU advantage to 29-25 at the break.
Thomas would lead ONU to start the second half as she connected on a jumper with 5:50 to play in the third quarter to extend the ONU lead to 35-25.
Northern would out score Heidelberg 14-7 in the quarter to claim the 43-32 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Lauck would extend the lead once more as she would connect on a pass from Espenschied with 8:49 to play to push the lead to 46-35.
The Polar Bears would shoot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final four minutes of the contest to claim the 61-51 victory.
Northern forced 18 turnovers in the contest, while out rebounding Heidelberg 36-32.
Heidelberg was led in the contest by Jackson with a team-high 12 points.
The Polar Bears return to action Saturday as they take on the No. 17-ranked Capital Crusaders, tip off set for 3 pm.
