Dumbaugh’s 22-point effort leads Women’s Basketball in 63-46 win over JCU

ADA — Junior Morgan Dumbaugh drained a game and season-high 22 points in Women's Basketball's 63-46 win over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The victory puts ONU's record at 16-3 overall and 10-2 in the OAC. The Blue Streaks fall to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in the league.
Sophomore Cenzie Yoder followed up with eight points, while three different players (Kara Dysert, Becca Saine and Jordan Kimes) finished with five apiece.
Dysert led all rebounders with a season and game-high 13 boards and Yoder pulled down 10.
The Polar Bears' largest lead of the opening period was by nine points (13-4) following a 3-pointer by junior Joanna Snyder at the 14:10 mark.
John Carroll then went on a 10-0 run, capped off by an Allison Lustig steal that led to a trey by Melissa Spahar with 11 minutes remaining. Northern would battle back and take a 27-22 lead into the break.
The first five minutes of the second half was productive for the Polar Bears, as they came out on a 15-4 run capped off by a layup by Saine.
Later in the game and up 45-30 with 13 minutes remaining, Northern would hit a 14-5 run to tally its largest lead of the game of 26 points with 6:56 remaining.
Northern would maintain its double-digit lead on to the 63-46 win.
"We had to get it together after that first half but I was happy with what they did in the second," head coach Michele Durand commented. "I believe we won the game in the first five or so minutes of the second half and I was happy to see them pull the win out like that."
JCU was led by Melissa Spahar with 20 points, followed by Meghan Weber with six.
The Polar Bears hosts its "Hoops for a Cure" game against Capital on Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
