Women’s Basketball to host its “Hoops for the Cure” fundraiser, Feb. 1
ADA — The Polar Bear women's basketball team will host its annual breast cancer fundraiser, Wednesday, Feb. 1, during its OAC game against Capital.
This year's "Hoops for a Cure" event is in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) annual awareness and fundraiser campaign. The WBCA allows participating teams to choose the local organization with which to partner.
As a group, the OAC women's basketball teams selected to partner with the Susan G. Komen foundation so the money raised at Wednesday night's game will benefit the Northwest Ohio affiliate.
"I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected by cancer in some way since this disease affects millions of women," head coach Michele Durand said. "I think this is an important event for our team to take part in and do our part to bring more attention to the cause."
Several items will be raffled off at halftime, including KtichenAid, Longaberger and Bath & Body-themed gift baskets.
Raffle tickets will sell for $2 for one ticket, $5 for three tickets and $10 for six tickets. Fans will also have an opportunity to donate by purchasing baked goods made by members of the team.
