Offensive outburst leads Softball to doubleheader sweep at Marietta to start OAC play

MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern softball team swept a doubleheader at Marietta on Saturday afternoon to start OAC play. ONU won the first game 15-7 and took the second game 6-5, pounding out 32 bse hits in the process.

Game 1 - W, 15-7
- Ohio Northern took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning.
- In the second inning, freshman Lillie Marker (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) hit a 3-run homer to make the score 4-0.
- Marietta scored one run in each the second and third innings.
- Senior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) hit an RBI double in the third inning.
- In the fourth inning, Northern scored three runs on an error by Marietta.

- Senior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) hit an RBI single in the fifth inning and sophomore Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) singled in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 10-7.
- Northern scored five runs in the seventh inning to seal the win for the Polar Bears.
- Senior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) pitched a complete game with a career-high 12 strikeouts to get the win in the circle for ONU.
- ONU out-hit MC 18-14.
Game 2 - W, 6-5
- Marietta took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and scored another run in the second inning.
- Junior Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) hit a solo homer in the second inning to make the score 4-1.
- Rosser hit a solo homer of her own in the third inning, along with an RBI single from Lenser and sacrifice fly from Hilty, tying the game up 4-4 in the third inning.
- In the fourth inning, Lenser hit another RBI single to take the lead.
- Marietta tied the game again in the fifth inning.
- Northern took the lead back after scoring on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning.
- Sophomore Taylor Keck (Wadsworth) got the win in the circle and Lenser got the save for the Polar Bears.
- Rosser went 4-for-4 with an RBI to lead ONU offensively.
- ONU out-hit MC 14-10.

- Ohio Northern is now 54-30 all-time against Marietta.
- Rosser finished the day 7-for-8 with a home run and six runs scored.
- Senior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) was 6-for-7 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
- Lenser ranks 4th all-time in ONU history with 288 career strikeouts.
- Rosser, Fansler and Lenser lead the team in batting through 18 games this season with averages of .500, .366 and .351, respectively.
