Softball wraps up non-conference schedule with doubleheader loss at Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI — The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a pair of losses in a non-conference doubleheader at Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday, 3-1 and 8-4.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (21-17 overall), Mount St. Joseph (19-13 overall).
- Venue: Kinder Morgan Softball Complex - Cincinnati, Ohio.
Game 1 - L, 1-3
- Mount St. Joseph scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- In the top of the sixth inning, fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) singled home junior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) to score Ohio Northern's lone run, making the score 3-1.
- Senior Kayla Runyon (Tipp City) pitched a complete game for the Polar Bears.
- Motylinski, Alejandro, and sophomore Lainie Howell (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) had two hits apiece to lead Ohio Northern.
- ONU out-hit MSJ 9-8.
Game 2 - L, 4-8
- In the top of the first inning, junior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and senior Kaylie Griffin (Grafton/Elyria Catholic) doubled to score Alejandro.
- Mount St. Joseph scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 2-1.
- In the top of the second inning, freshman Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta) scored on a fielder's choice by Lenser.
- The Lions answered with three runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-3.
- Howell scored in the top of the fourth on an error by MSJ.
- Mount Saint Joseph scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and one in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 8-4.
- Freshman Taylor Keck (Wadsworth) pitched a complete game, striking out two.
- Schroeder led the Polar Bears with two hits in the second game.
- MSJ out-hit ONU 13-8.
Notables
- Motylinski now has 146 career base hits and 103 career RBIs. She ranks tied for 9th all-time in ONU history with her 103 RBIs.
- Wilson, Rosser, and Motylinski lead Ohio Northern in batting through 36 games this season with averages of .393, .375 and .359, respectively.
- ONU is now 2-4 all-time against Mount St. Joseph.
- Ohio Northern has clinched its 11th consecutive winning season.
- The Polar Bears are currently in fourth place in the OAC Regular Season standings and need one win in their season-ending double header at Heidelberg next Saturday to clinch a spot in the 4-team OAC Tournament.
