BEREA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace on Sunday, falling 4-3 and 4-2.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (20-12 overall, 9-5 OAC), Baldwin Wallace (18-12 overall, 8-4 OAC).
- Venue: BW Softball Field - Berea, Ohio.
Game 1 - L, 3-4 (8 Innings)
- Baldwin Wallace score three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
- Junior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) scored on a Yellow Jackets error in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 3-all.
- But BW would score in the bottom of the eighth to take the opener.
- Fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) went 3-for-4, Rosser was 2-for-3 and junior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) went 2-for-4 for ONU.
- Junior Ashley Lenser (Brookeville) allowed only five hits and one earned run while striking out nine in the circle.
- ONU out-hit BWU 9-5.
Game 2 - L, 2-4
- Baldwin Wallace scored four runs in the bottom of the first to grab a quick 4-0 lead.
- Neither team would score for the next four innings until the Polar Bears got a RBI single from sophomore Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and a sac fly from Motylinski to get within 4-2.
- But BW relief pitcher Marisa Hall came on to get out of the jam in the sixth and allowed only one hit in the seventh as the hosts held on for the sweep.
- Senior Kaylie Griffin (Grafton/Elyria Catholic), Lenser and Rosser each had two hits for Ohio Northern.
- ONU out-hit BWU 8-7.
Notables
- Rosser finished the day 4-for-6 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, while Motylinski was 3-for-6 with a double and 2 RBI for ONU.
- Motylinski now has 143 career base hits and 101 career RBIs. She ranks 11th all-time in ONU history with her 101 RBIs.
- Wilson, Rosser and Motylinski lead Ohio Northern in batting through 30 games this season with averages of .411, .402 and .388, respectively.
- Lenser is now 10-2 with 68 strikeouts and a 2.30 ERA in 74.1 innings in the circle.
