Softball opens beautiful Durbin-Hileman Stadium with double header against No. 1 ranked Trine (Ind.)

ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team played its first ever games at beautiful brand new Durbin-Hileman Stadium with a double header against defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Trine (Ind.) on a sunny and chilly Sunday afternoon.
The Basics
- Trine won the opener 9-0 in five innings and took the nightcap 10-0 in five innings.
- Records: Ohio Northern (6-6 overall), Trine (18-1 overall).
- Venue: Durbin-Hileman Stadium - Ada, Ohio.
Game 1 - L, 0-9 (5 innings)
- The Thunder took control early, scoring twice in the top of the first and four more times in the top of the second to lead 6-0.
- Junior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) went 1-for-2 for ONU.
- Trine out-hit Ohio Northern 11-1.
Game 2 - L, 0-10 (5 innings)
- TU started quickly again in game two, scoring four times in both the first and third innings to lead 9-0.
- Fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.), junior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg) and sophomore Lainie Howell (Upper Sandusky/Riverdale) eacheach had base hits for the Polar Bears.
- Alejandro led off the bottom of the fourth frame with a single up the middle and Motylinski followed one out later with a single through the left side put runners on first and second.
- But the Thunder would get the next two outs to thwart the rally.
- Trine out-hit Ohio Northern 9-3.
Notables
- The Polar Bears played their first-ever games in brand-new Durbin-Hileman Stadium.
- Sophomore Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and junior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) lead Ohio Northern in batting through 12 games this season with averages of .481 and .455, respectively.
- Lenser is also 3-1 with 22 strikeouts and a 2.23 ERA in 22.0 innings in the circle and is hitting .455 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI at the plate.
- Northern is now 8-12 all-time against Trine.
- Ohio Northern is in its 57th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 978-666-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .594.
- Seventh-year head coach Jackie Price is now 160-98-1 at Ohio Northern for a winning percentage of .620.
