MARIETTA — Sophomore Ashley Lenser (Brookville) surpassed 100 career strikeouts on Sunday as the Ohio Northern softball team dropped both games of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to Marietta at Marietta Field.
The Pioneers (11-5, 2-0 OAC) won 4-0 in Game 1 and 10-4 in Game 2.
The Polar Bears fall to 9-9 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
Lenser pitched the entirety of Game 1 and recorded four strikeouts, giving her 103 for her career.
She is the 21st member of ONU's 100-Strikeout Club and is tied for 17th on the program's all-time career strikeout list.
Northern tallied seven hits in Game 1, getting two each from sophomore Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) and freshman Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta).
Shelby Metzger and Camryn Campbell had two hits apiece to lead Marietta.
Rachel Kazmirski, Amelia Timko and Jillian Middleton pitched the combined shutout for the Pioneers.
MC opened the scoring with RBI singles from Middleton and Taylor Airy in the fourth inning.
The Pioneers made it 3-0 on an RBI single from Kazmirski in the fifth and capped the scoring with an RBI double from Haylee Mott in the sixth.
Senior pitcher Allie Bican (Solon) posted eight strikeouts in Game 2 for the Polar Bears, giving her 210 for her career, which ranks seventh all-time at ONU.
Senior Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) led the ONU offense with two hits, including a double, to go with an RBI.
Kazmirski had a game-high four hits, including three doubles, to lead MC.
The Polar Bears got out to a hot start in Game 2, staking a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Junior Kaylie Griffin (Grafton/Elyria Catholic) hit a leadoff double and scored on a double from Wilson.
Senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) drew a one-out walk, which was followed by an RBI single from freshman Hailey Fraser (Erie, Colo.) and an RBI double from Murray.
Fraser later scored on an MC error that allowed senior Lauren Walls (Grove City) to reach base.
But Marietta stormed back, scoring the game's final 10 runs to get the victory.
The Pioneers took their first lead of the game courtesy of a two-run home run from Jess Brown in the fifth inning for a 6-4 edge.
MC capped the scoring with a four-run sixth frame.
The Polar Bears return to action on Tuesday to host an OAC doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace beginning at 3 p.m.
