ADA — Senior Brady Guest (Convoy/Crestview) hit three of Ohio Northern's seven home runs as the Polar Bears swept an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header from Marietta on Sunday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
Ohio Northern improves to 5-5-1 overall and is 4-4 in the OAC after the 15-9, 6-0 victoies, while the Pioneers fall to 1-7, 1-7.
Guest hit a pair of 2-run home runs in Game 1. Her 2-run shot in the bottom of the sixth capped a 9-run rally that saw ONU overcome a 9-6 deficit to lead 15-9.
Sophomore Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) also hit a 2-run home run in the game.
Freshman MarcQue Harris (Fremont/Old Fort) threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn her first career victory.
In the nightcap, senior Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) hit two home runs and junior Stacey Walters (Solon) threw a 5-hit shutout for ONU.
It was the second shutout in as many games as she threw a 2-hit shutout on Saturday at Marietta. She extends her scoreless innings streak to 17.0.
Guest got ONU on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the third and Stewart followed with a solo blast in the fourth and it was 2-0.
Stewart then crushed a 3-run home run in the sixth and junior Lauren Renner (Columbus/Hilliard Bradley) followed with a solo shot to account for all of ONU's runs.
Stewart has a team-best four home runs this season and is fifth all-time at ONU with 17 career long balls.
Guest also has four home runs this season and ranks sixth all-time in school history with 16 in her career.
The Polar Bears will return to action next weekend with a 4-game series with John Carroll, beginning with a double header at the ONU Softball Field in Ada on Saturday and concluding with two games at University Heights on Sunday.
