ADA — Junior Alicia Swierz (Deerfield/Southeast) hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one to lead Ohio Northern in a non-conference softball double header split with Wooster on Wednesday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears (7-9 overall) won the opener 3-2 and the Scots (9-7) won the nightcap 7-3.
Swierz hit her second career home run of her career with two out in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie and put ONU ahead 3-1.
Wooster rallied for a run in the top of the seventh, but senior Kaitlin Surdej (Lancaster, N.Y./Central) pitched out of a 2-on, 2-out jam to pick up the win and improve to 4-4 on the season.
In Game 2, sophomore Brady Guest (Convoy/Crestview) hit a 2-run home run, her third of the season and eighth of her career, to get ONU within 5-2.
Senior Hailee Loughman (Brookville) then hit a solo shot in the sixth frame, giving her two dingers this season and moving her into eighth place all-time in ONU history with 13 for her career.
But Wooster scored in each of the first six innings to record the 7-3 victory.
The Polar Bears are scheduled to return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday with a double header at Capital.
