ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a pair of contests on Friday afternoon, falling 7-2 and 12-1 to Otterbein in a double header at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 24-6 overall and 10-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 24-8, 11-3.
After Otterbein scored six runs in the first two innings of game one, the Polar Bear defense settled in and held the Cardinals scoreless over the next three innings.
ONU scored its first run of the contest in the bottom half of the fourth inning as sophomore Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) scored on a Cardinal miscue to cut the deficit to 6-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore Alicia Swierz (Deerfield/Southeast) plated senior Jenna Hollar (Lima/Bath) with a single to right center field, pulling Northern within 6-2.
The Cardinals would add one more run in the top of the sixth inning as they went on to take game one 7-2.
In the second contest OU scored early and often, taking a 5-0 lead in the first three innings before using a 7-run fourth inning to seal the 12-0 victory.
Northern will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Marietta to take on the Pioneers in a twinbill at 1 p.m.
