Five athletes named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in Softball

ADA — The Ohio Northern Softball team saw five members earn Academic All-OAC honors in 2017.
Juniors Leanna Henry (West Jefferson), Gia Saturday (Ashtabula/Edgewood), Miranda Huddle (Versailles) and sophomores Hailee Loughman (Brookville) and Laura Houtz Burden (Pleasant Hill/Newton) each earned the honor.
Henry, a Psychology major, earned the honor for the second consecutive season.
The junior appeared in 24 games this season and recorded 15 hits and added 11 RBI for the Polar Bear offense.
Saturday, a Statistics major, also earned the honor for the second consecutive season.
Saturday appeared in 33 games at the third base position for ONU.
The junior recorded 18 hits and added 14 runs scored in 2017.
Huddle is a Computer Engineering major and earned the honor for the second time in her career.
Huddle made appearances in 24 contests this season and recorded a hit and three runs scored.
Loughman, a History and Social Studies major, was named Academic All-OAC for the first time in her career.
The sophomore has a solid season for ONU as she appeared in 37 of 38 games at the first base position.
Loughman led the team and ranked fifth in the OAC with 32 RBI during the regular season and also led the team and ranked fifth in the OAC with five home runs.
Burden, a Nursing major, also earned her first career Academic All-OAC accolade.
Burden appeared in 22 games this season and recorded six hits and four runs scored.
The Polar Bears posted a 25-13 overall record in 2017 and finished 9-9 in the OAC under first year head coach Jackie Mangola.
