ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped a double header to conference leader Otterbein 5-1, 5-0 Wednesday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
Northern falls to 14-12 overall, 4-4 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Otterbein improves to 21-3-2, 8-0.
ONU was led by freshman Kylie Asmus who went 2-for-7 on the day with an RBI.
In game one, the Polar Bears bright spot came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Asmus was able to plate Northern's only run on an RBI single to center field pulling within 4-1.
Otterbein would plate the games final run in the top of the seventh as an ONU miscue would place runners in scoring position.
Sophomore Kirsten Lightel pitched a complete game for ONU recording four strike outs.
Freshman Kaitlin Surdej got the call in game two as Northern fell behind early.
The Otterbein offense picked up right where it left off plating runs in the top of the first and the second inning to take the 2-0 advantage.
Surdej would go to work in the circle for ONU holding the Cardinals scoreless for four full innings.
In the top of the seventh, Otterbein used consistent hitting to score three more runs en route to the 5-0 victory.
Northern returns to action Friday as they play host to Mount Union, first pitch scheduled for 3 pm.
