WILMINGTON — Senior Tessa Topp recorded her first home run of the season as Softball swept Wilmington 4-3, 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Wilmington Softball Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 14-10 overall, 4-2 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Wilmington falls to 8-14, 0-8.
In game one, the Polar Bears found themselves trailing 1-0 early before a Wilmington miscue plated the game tying run in the top of the third.
The Polar Bear offense would come alive in the top of the fifth as they plated three more runs.
Sophomore Jenna Hollar led off the inning with a single to third before freshman Kylie Asmus drew a walk and Topp loaded the bases.
Sophomore Miranda Huddle would tie the game at 3-3 with an RBI single scoring Hollar.
Freshman Hailee Loughman would plate the games final run as she hit a shot to right center clearing the base paths.
With the win, freshman Kaitlin Surdej improves to 6-5 overall. She recorded five strikeouts in the contest.
Topp led ONU in game two going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run.
The Polar Bears would take the early 2-0 lead in game two as Topp homered to deep left field in the top of the fourth.
Wilmington would get one run back in the bottom half of the inning pulling within 2-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Topp would record her third RBI of the contest as she doubled to left field scoring Hollar.
Sophomore Kirsten Lightel got the call in game two, pitching a complete game and striking out six.
With the win, Lightel moves into ninth all-time in ONU career history in wins with 25.
The Polar Bears return to action Wednesday as they play host to Otterbein.
