Saturday, Asmus homer to lead Softball on final day of Spring Break Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team moved to 9-5 overall after splitting on the final day of its annual spring break trip to Clermont, Fla.
The Polar Bears defeated Ursinus 11-3 and fell to St. John Fisher (N.Y.) 9-3.
Northern was led on the day by sophomore Gia Saturday and freshman Kylie Asmus both recording home runs on the day.
In the contest with Ursinus, freshman Laura Burden would score the first run for the Polar Bears as she hit an RBI single to left plating the games first run.
Asmus would then clear the bases as she singled to right field putting ONU op top 3-0.
Senior Megan Hupp would plate the final run of the inning as she would score Asmus giving Northern the 4-0 advantage.
Ursinus would score a run in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 4-1.
In the fourth inning, the Polar Bear offense would come alive once more as Asmus would once again use a big stick to clear the bases and plate two more runs for ONU.
Senior Amanda Lahti and Saturday would follow that up with RBI singles putting ONU on top 9-1.
Northern would clinch the win in the bottom of the sixth inning as Saturday would hit a walk off home run en route to the 11-3 victory.
In game two, the Polar Bears found themselves trailing early as St. John Fisher plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning, three in the third inning, and one in the fourth inning.
Northern would finally get on the board in the fifth inning as Asmus would hit a home run to deep center field scoring ONU's only runs in the contest.
The Polar Bears would go onto record seven hits in the game as they fell 9-3.
ONU returns to action March 15 as they welcome non-conference opponent Bluffton to the ONU Softball Field.
