CLERMONR, Fla. - The Ohio Northern softball team split on Sunday, defeating no. 11-ranked Alma (Mich.) 9-1 and falling to Nuemann (Pa.) 8-2 at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
The Polar Bears move to 4-2 on the season.
In the contest with Alma, sophomore Kirsten Lightel led the way recording six strikeouts and surrendering just one run in the circle.
Sophomore Jenna Hollar led the offense for ONU, recording three hits and scoring a game-high four runs in the win.
The Polar Bear offense went to work early against Alma as freshman Kylie Asmus singled plating two runs for ONU.
Lightel also recorded an RBI in the inning, scoring senior Amanda Lahti and pushing the Northern advantage to 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, Hollar would single to left recording her first RBI of the contest.
Senior Megan Hupp would follow it up with an RBI of her own as she hit a sacrifice fly that would plate Hollar and give ONU the 5-0 advantage after 2 innings of play.
Alma would plate its only run in the third inning as Kassidi Adams would score on a fielders choice.
Northern would plate three more runs in the fourth inning, before sophomore Anna Martin would score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
In game one, Lahti led the way for the Polar Bears recording two hits and one RBI.
Northern returns to action Monday as they take on Immaculata (Pa.) at 11 am, followed by Cabrini (Pa.) at 1 pm.
