COLUMBUS - Senior Kelly Sheridan homers in game 1 to lead Ohio Northern softball to a 5-2, 10-2 split with Capital Sunday afternoon at the Clowson Field located in Columbus.
The Polar Bears move to 21-12 overall, 12-6 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Capital moves to 27-12, 14-4.
With the game 1 win the Polar Bears have clinched a spot in the OAC Tournament.
In game 1, Capital took an early 2-0 lead before ONU responded in the top of the fourth as freshman Miranda Huddle hit a RBI single down the right field line knotting the score at 2-2.
Junior Amanda Lahti broke the tie in the top of the seventh as she recorded an RBI, scoring freshman Jenna Hollar. The Polar Bears tacked on two more runs in the inning as Sheridan hit a home run to left in route to the 5-2 victory.
Freshman pitcher Kirsten Lightel pitched a complete game, improving to 14-2 on the season.
Capital dominated most of game 2 as the Crusaders scored 10 runs on 15 hits.
The Polar Bears two runs came in the top of the third as Hollar scored on a Capital miscue to tie the game at 1-1. Lahti then singled to center field scoring freshman Anna Martin giving ONU the 2-1 lead.
The Crusaders closed out the bottom half of the inning plating three runs and regaining the lead 4-2.
Capital went on to score six more runs in the final three innings of action to claim the game 2 victory 10-2.
Sheridan led the Polar Bears at the dish going 3-for-7 with 2 RBIs.
ONU returns to action Friday as they compete in Day 1 of the OAC Tournament.
