NEW CONCORD — Freshman Gia Saturday hits a two run home run to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a 3-4, 7-8 double header loss at Muskingum Saturday afternoon at the Donna J. Newberry field.
The Polar Bears fall to 16-9 overall, 7-5 Ohio Athletic Conference, while Muskingum improves to 13-15, 4-6.
In game 1, Saturday hit a a two run homer in the top of the sixth that tied the game at 3-3 before Muskingum plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Freshman Jenna Hollar went 2-for-3 in the game, while Saturday went 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
In game 2 of the double header, the Polar Bears scored first as they were able to plate 3 runs in the top of the fourth.
Junior Tessa Topp led ONU in the inning as she hit a RBI single to left that platted two runs.
Muskingum responded in the bottom of the fourth, as Moore and Martin both homered to give the Muskies the 6-3 advantage.
The Polar Bears added another in the top of the fifth as junior Amanda Lahti doubled to left, scoring Hollar.
Senior Kelly Sheridan pulled ONU within 5-6 in the top of the sixth as she hit a solo shot to center field.
Sophomore, pitcher, Paige Ordean was able to retire the Muskies in the bottom of the sixth as she was able to go three-up three-down to close the inning.
ONU scored again in the top of the seventh as senior Taylor Manahan singled to right center plating Lahti to take the 7-6 lead, but Mukingum responded in the bottom of the seventh to get the 8-7 victory.
The Polar Bears are next in action Tuesday as it host OAC opponent Baldwin Wallace at the ONU Softball Field.
