ADA -- Freshman Gia Saturday went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to lead Ohio Northern to an 8-2 victory over Heidelberg in Game 1 of an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header Saturday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The Student Pronces won Game 2 10-1 to earn the split.
The Polar Bears move to 10-5 overall and are 1-1 in OAC action, while the Student Princes move to 10-4, 1-1.
Freshman Jenna Hollar and Saturday had back-to back doubles in the bottom of the third inning to snap a 1-1 tie in Game 1.
Senior Kelly Sheridan followed with a sharp single to right to score Saturday and put the Polar Bears up 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Saturday had a 2-out, 2-run single to score freshman Miranda Huddle and freshman Anna Martin to extend ONU's lead to 5-1.
Her 2-run home run to right center in the top of the sixth made it 8-2 Polar Bears.
Freshman Kirsten Lightel improved to 6-1 in the circle, allowing only two runs in the complete game victory.
In Game 2, freshman Miranda Huddle had a 2-out single to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second.
But HU would score five times in the top of the fourth and go on to the win.
The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday with a 2 pm double header at No. 8-ranked Trine (Ind.)
