CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern softball team rallied for a 5-2 victory over Manhattanville (N.Y.) and pounded out 16 base hits in a 17-5 victory over Webster (Mo.) Saturday night at Hancock Park.
The Polar Bears are 8-3, while the Valiants fall to 0-2 and the Gorlocks fall to 1-6.
In the opener against the Manhattanville, Ohio Northern trailed 2-0 after four innings, but scored once in the fifth and four more times in the sixth to register the win.
Freshman Anna Martin singled home freshman Jenna Hollar to get the Polar Bears on the board in the top of the fifth.
In the sixth, freshman Miranda Huddle and freshman Kirsten Lightel had back-to-back bases loaded walks to give ONU a 3-2 lead.
Hollar followed with an RBI single and freshman Gia Saturday had an RBI ground out as ONU built a 5-2 lead.
Lightel (4-1) earned the victory, allowing only four hits and striking out five.
Against the Gorlocks in the nightcap, Tessa Topp hit her first home run of the season to lead the ONU attack.
The Polar Bears scored in five of their seven at-bats, including a 6-run seventh inning.
Senior Kelly Sheridan went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, Saturday was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and Martin was 1-for-4 with four runs scored for ONU.
Sophomore Paige Ordean (3-2) earned the win in the circle.
Ohio Northern will wrap up its Spring Break trip on Sunday with an 11 am game against Haverford (Pa.) and a 1 pm contest with North Park (Ill.) at Hancock Park.
