CLERMONT, Fla. - The Ohio Northern softball team, led by freshman Kirsten Lightel, defeated Lebanon Valley (Pa.) and Immaculata (Pa.) Tuesday afternoon at the Hancock Complex in Clermont, Fla.
Ohio Northern improves to 4-1 overall.
Lightel pitched a complete game against Lebanon Valley (Pa.), striking out eight and giving up just one run en route to the 2-1 victory.
The Polar Bears took the 1-0 advantage in the top of the 3rd as freshman Gia Saturday doubled to score freshman Anna Martin.
Lebanon Valley was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth following a Polar Bear miscue that plated one run.
Northern responded with the winning run in the top of the fifth as Saturday picked up her second RBI in the contest an scored senior Kelly Sheridan.
In game 2, the Polar Bears were able to jump to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the second, over Immaculata, as Lightel and Martin both RBI in the inning.
Immaculata plated three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 3-3.
Freshman Miranda Huddle came up big for ONU in the top of the sixth as she singled to left and regained the lead for the Polar Bears 4-3.
Ohio Northern added two more runs in the top of the seventh to win the contest 6-3.
The Polar Bears are next in action Wednesday as they take on Muhlenberg at 9 am and Augustana at 11 am.
