Matt Fleming, Christin Miller named ONU's Clyde Lamb Award winners

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Matt Fleming and Christin Miller have been named Ohio Northern's recipients of the prestigious Clyde Lamb Award for the 2013-14 school year.
The Clyde A. Lamb Awards are named in honor of the man who organized the Department of Health and Physical Education at Ohio Northern in 1929.
He served as coach, department chairman and athletics director at ONU from 1929-64.
Criteria for the award include at least two year's participation in an Ohio Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, senior status, a minimum grade point average of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his/her institution.
Each of the league's 10 schools award the honor to their top male and female student-athletes.
Fleming, an international business and spanish major, was a four-year starter as a defenseman on the men's soccer team and played in 97 career games, which is the third-most in program history.
Fleming was named Third Team All-America, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Ohio and First Team All-OAC as a senior and ended his career as a two-time All-Conference honoree.
Academically, he was named a scholar All-American, Capital One Academic All-District and All-OAC.
As a junior he won the prestigious Elite 89 Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the national championships in his sport.
Ohio Northern posted a 18-4-0 record, winning its fourth consecutive OAC Tournament title and third straight OAC Regular Season championship under head coach Brent Ridenour.
Miller, a biology major, ended her career as ONU's all-time career hits leader with 259 and is a four-time All-OAC, three-time All-Central Region and Academic All-Conference honoree as an outfielder.
She earned First Team All-Conference accolades in each of her first three seasons as a Polar Bear and was a Second Team pick in 2014.
Miller was named Second Team All-Central Region this year, was First Team All-Region as a sophomore and Third Team All-Region as a junior.
She is only the second player in ONU history to hit .400 in four consecutive seasons and ranks second all-time with 53 stolen bases.
This year, she was second on the team with a .450 batting average and led the team with 67 hits and 22 stolen bases.
The Polar Bears finished 23-19 overall and won a share of the OAC Regular Season crown with a 12-6 record under first-year head coach Ali Hess.
