ADA -- Ohio Northern and Adrian (Mich.) split a non-conference softball double header Thursday afternoon in the 2012 home opener at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears move to 11-5, while the Bulldogs (Mich.) are now 10-7.
Northern won the nightcap 4-1 after Adrian took the opener 3-1.
In Game 2, senior All-American Kimi Blewett drilled a 2-run home run, her team-leading seventh of the season, in the bottom of the third inning to put Northern up 2-0.
Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, senior Katie Cretin and sophomore Christin Miller scored on a two-out error to put ONU ahead 4-1.
Sophomore Dani Steepe (2-0) allowed just one hit in four shutout innings to earn the win, while junior Katy Newman allowed just two hits and no earned runs in three innings of relief to earn her first save.
In Game 1, junior Ashley Sujkowski went 2-for-3 to lead the ONU offense.
Adrian got on the board first with an unearned run in the top of the first.
Sophomore Collen Baliga looped a single down the right field line to score senior Cassie Gaye in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bulldogs scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead.
Kelly Eberhardt (6-4) picked up the win for AC, while junior Abbey Bensing (4-3) took the loss.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at 1 pm with an Ohio Athletic Conference double header with Marietta at the ONU Softball Field.
