UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Senior All-American Kimi Blewett hit a pair of home runs to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a 12-2, 7-3 double header sweep of John Carroll Sunday afternoon at JCU's Bracken Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-4 overall and are 2-0 in OAC action, while the Blue Streaks fall to 13-5, 0-2.
Blewett finished the day 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI. She now leads ONU with six home runs this year.
In the opener, Northern struck for five first inning runs and cruised to the win.
Junior Ashley Sujkowski had a two-run double and senior Cassie Gaye followed with an RBI single to key the rally.
Blewett smacked a 2-run home run in the second to extend ONU's lead to 7-1.
A two-run triple by sophomore Christin Miller in the third made it a 9-1 contest.
Leading 9-2 in the top of the seventh, junior Michelle Sweet had an RBI single and freshman Kelly Sheridan had a 2-run double to cap the scoring.
Junior Abbey Bensing improved to 4-2 on the season with a complete-game 4-hitter, striking out six.
In the second game, Blewett drilled a 2-run, first inning home run to get the Polar Bears off to another quick start.
Gaye put ONU up 6-1 with a 3-run home run in the third inning.
Senior Katie Cretin had an RBI single in the top of the seventh to add to ONU's lead.
Junior Katy Newman (3-2) earned the win with a complete game victory.
The Polar Bears will return to action Thursday when they host Adrian (Mich.) in a 3:30 pm double header in their home opener at the ONU Softball Field.
