ADA — Mount Union edged Ohio Northern 1-0 in Game 2 of the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Friday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The top-seeded Polar Bears fall to 24-11, while the fourth-seeded Purple Raiders improve to 20-13.
MtU advances to the semifinals to face third-seeded Baldwin-Wallace Friday at 3 pm.
ONU moves to the loser's bracket and will face second-seeded John Carroll in an elimination game Saturday morning at 9 am.
Rachel McAnnich (10-5) struck out eight Polar Bears in the 4-hit shutout to earn the victory.
MtU scored an unearned run in the top of the second frame and McAnnich made it stand up.
ONU loaded the bases in the fifth frame and had second and third with none out in the sixth, but McAnnich worked out of each jam and struck out three consecutive batters to end the sixth-inning threat.
Maggie Molnar (6-5) took the loss despite allowing only one unearned run.
