GRANVILLE — Junior Katie Cretin had six RBIs to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a split at Denison Wednesday afternoon.
The Polar Bears won the opener 11-3 and dropped the nightcap 14-11.
With the split, Northern moves to 13-7 on the season, while Denison moves to 15-5 overall.
A 7-run second inning propelled the Polar Bears to an 11-3 win in game one.
Already taking a 2-0 lead into the second, the Northern bats came alive for a seven run second inning.
Freshman Christin Miller started the scoring with a two RBI single that brought in Cretin and sophomore Michelle Sweet.
Junior All-American Kimi Blewitt doubled to left-center field bringing in two more runs, scoring Miller and sophomore Meghan Anten.
Sophomore Ashley Sujkowski homered to left field to bring in Blewitt and junior All-American Jackie Mangola who had been hit by a pitch.
The 7-run second inning put the Polar Bears ahead 9-0 going into the third.
A two RBI double in the fifth by Cretin brought in Blewitt and Mangola and gave Northern an 11-3 lead that they would hold onto for the win.
Blewitt finished 2-2 with three RBIs and Sujkowski finished 2-3 with three RBI's.
Junior pitcher Maggie Molnar earned the win, improving to 3-2 on the season.
In Game 2, Northern scored two runs in the top of the first when Cretin laced a single into left field bringing in Blewitt and Mangola.
Denison quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs to take a 7-2 lead.
The Polar Bears battled back, tacking on four runs in the second, and adding another in the fourth when Mangola launched her team leading eighth home run of the year to bring Northern to within 8-7.
The Polar Bears had a huge sixth inning with Sujkowski and Cretin each having two RBI hits in the frame to take an 11- lead.
But Denison would plate six runs in the bottom of the inning to come back and earn the 14-11 win.
Cretin finished 2-4 with four RBIs in Game 2.
Sophomore Katy Newman was charged with her first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1.
The Polar Bears return to action on Saturday at 1 pm as they host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta in the first home game of the season.
