Mangola, Blewett hit home runs as Softball sweeps Marietta 9-0, 10-0 in OAC double header

ADA — Ohio Northern got home runs for a pair of All-Americans to post a 9-0 and 10-0 sweep of Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference softball double header Saturday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 16-7 overall and 5-1 in OAC play, while the Pioneers fall to 14-9, 4-4.
Junior All-American Jackie Mangola drilled two home runs, her team-leading ninth and 10th of the season, and junior All-American Kimi Blewett smacked her fifth home run of the year to lead ONU.
In Game 1, the Polar Bears got on the board first when junior All-American Jackie Mangola led off the bottom of the second inning with a double off of the right field fence.
Sophomore Ashley Sujkowski then bunted Mangola to third and she scored on a RBI single to right by junior Katie Cretin.
Sophomore Meghan Anten laced a 2-out, 2-run double into the right field corner to score sophomore Michelle Sweet and junior Lisa Light and make it 3-0 Polar Bears.
In the bottom of the third frame, Mangola struck again, drilling a long home run to left center field, scoring junior All-American Kimi Blewett, to make it a 5-0 advantage.
Northern blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Alia Brodie slapped a two-out, RBI double to left center to make it a 6-0 game and Blewett drilled a 3-run home run to dead center field to make it 9-0 Polar Bears.
In Game 2, Northern struck quickly, scoring four times in the bottom of the first.
Freshman Christin Miller singled on the first pitch of the frame, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brodie and scored on an RBI single by Blewett to put ONU up 1-0.
Sujkowski doubled off the top of the right-center field fence to score Blewett and make it 2-0 and Cretin followed with a sharp single to center to score Mangola and make it 3-0 Polar Bears.
Sujkowski then beat a throw home from shortstop on a ground ball by Anten and it was 4-0 ONU.
A 3-run double by Sujkowski in the bottom of the second extended Northern's advantage to 7-0.
Northern made it 8-0 in the bottom of the third when Sweet doubled and later scored on a single by Brodie.
Mangola drilled her second home run of the day, this one a 2-run shot to dead center field, to score Blewett and give ONU a 10-0 advantage in the fourth frame.
Sophomore Abbey Bensing threw a 3-hit shutout to move to 4-0 on the mound.
The Polar Bears will return to action Tuesday with an OAC double header at Heidelberg.
