Cassie Gaye leads No. 2 Softball to victories over Lebanon Valley, Rose Hulman

CLERMONT, Fla. — Sophomore Cassie Gaye collected five hits as the No. 2 Ohio Northern softball team got its offense going in victories over Lebanon Valley (Pa.) and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Friday at the NTC Games.
The Polar Bears (5-1) pounded out 37 hits in the two games, including a 25-hit effort in a 17-7 victory over Lebanon Valley Friday morning.
Senior Cortney Cash and sophomore Maggie Molnar combined for a 7-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over Rose-Hulman
Gaye had a solo home run and a pair of doubles and sophomores Jackie Mangola and Kim Blewett each drilled 3-run home runs as ONU got the win.
Cash (3-1) picked up the win by scattering seven hits in four innings of work.
Mangola finished the game 4 for 5 with a home run, two doubles and 6 RBI.
Sophomore Katie Cretin and freshmen Chrissy Rankin and Meghan Anten each had doubles for Northern.
In the second game Saturday afternoon, Molnar threw five shutout innings in relief to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Leading 1-0 entrering the bottom of the fifth, senior Mandi Fought singled, stole second and scored on a double by Blewett to make it a 2-0 game.
Blewett later scored on a double by Rankin to give ONU a 3-0 advantage.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their sporing break trip on Saturday against Rochester (N.Y.) at 1:30 pm and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at 5:30 pm.
