No. 2 Softball tops Mary Washington, falls to Augustana (Ill.)

CLERMONT, Fla. — The No. 2-ranked Ohio Northern softball team split a pair of games on the second day of its spring break trip.
The Polar Bears (3-1) got a 4-hit shutout from Cortney Cash to defeat Mary Washington (Va.) 11-0 Thursday morning, then dropped a 2-1 squeaker to Augustana (Ill.) Thursday afternoon at the NTC Games.
Northern pounded out 16 hits in the 5-inning victory over Mary Washington.
Jackie Mangola had a pair of doubles and Kim Blewett, Katie Cretin and Lisa Light each added a double for the Polar Bears, who plated nine runs in the third frame.
Against Augustana, the Bears' bats were silent, as ONU would only collect six hits.
Stephanie Sarb hit a 2-run home run in the top of the first and held that lead until the bottom of the sixth when Jackie Mangola doubled home Mandi Fought to make it 2-1.
The Polar Bears will play a pair of games on Friday against Lebanon Valley (Pa.) at 9:30 am and against Rose-Hulman (Ind.) at 11:30 am.
