No. 4 Softball sets several records with 21-6 win over Muskingum; advances to OAC Tourney Finals

ADA - The top-seeded and No.4-ranked Ohio Northern softball entered the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament record books as they defeated Muskingum 21-6 in five innings to advance into the OAC Tournament finals.
Ohio Northern (37-4) broke OAC Tournament records for runs in a game (15, set by John Carroll yesterday) and home runs in a game (five).
Muskingum's season ends with a 22-21 record.
Senior Tina Mangola hit two home runs and a double while she went 3-for-4 with four RBIs while sophomore Jackie Mangola went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, and five RBIs. Tina's two homers also tie an OAC Tournament game record.
Each team's offense was attacking early, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Senior Mandi Fought led off with a single but was forced out as sophomore Jackie Mangola reached on a fielder's choice.
Sophomore Kimi Blewett and Tina Mangola added back-to-back doubles to the gaps to plate the first two ONU runs. Sophomore Cassie Gaye drove in Mangola with an RBI single, giving the Polar Bears a 3-0 lead.
After back-to-back singles to start the inning, an RBI double by Boda and an RBI single by Heagen made it 3-2. Boda stole home to tie the game at 3-3.
The Ohio Northern offense pounded out eight runs in the top of the second.
Each Mangola sister homered, as Jackie drilled a three-run homer before Tina added a solo shot a batter later. Sophomore Cassie Gaye then doubled, freshman Meghan Anten singled and sophomore Katie Cretin walked to load up the bases.
Back-to-back RBI walks by freshman Chrissy Rankin and senior Cortney Cash pushed the lead to 9-3 before Fought added a sacrifice fly to drive in Cretin. Jackie Mangola knocked in her fourth run of the inning as she singled down the left field line, scoring Rankin and making the lead 11-3.
Muskingum picked up one more run when freshman Jendy Weppler singled home freshman Shana Snow, but the Polar Bears picked up five more runs in the fourth.
After Cash walked and Fought reached on an error, Jackie Mangola picked up her fifth RBI of the game as she doubled. Blewett then hit her 11th blast of the season and was followed by Tina Mangola's second home run of the game and also her 11th of the year to make the lead 16-4.
Muskingum picked up another run in the bottom of the inning, but ONU put up their second straight five-run inning in the fifth.
Cash doubled and scored on an RBI single by Fought. After a Jackie Mangola single, Blewett added her fifth RBI of the game on a single, as well. Gaye then put a three-run homer over the center field wall, making the score 21-5.
Muskingum scored another run in the sixth, but Cash was able to pick up her 15th complete game ofo the year and improve to 19-2 overall.
Ohio Northern will play John Carroll in the OAC Tournament Finals at approximately 1:30 pm at the ONU Softball Field. After losing yesterday, the Polar Bears have to win twice to claim the OAC Championship, while the Blue Streaks have to win one game.
