ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team will compete in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday … The meet will be held at the Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Ind. … The men are slated to run an 8k race at 11:00 a.m. while the women will compete ina 6k race at 12:15 p.m. … The first place finishing team will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA DIII National Championships in Louisville, Ky., along with the first place teams in the other nine regionals, and then 22 at-large bids will be awarded on Sunday ... The top-7 individuals not on a team qualifying for the NCAA DIII National Championships will receive an individual bid as well ... The top-35 finishers will be named to the USTFCCCA All-Region team ... The Polar Bears have placed in the top half of the field in five of their six meets this season … Northern is fresh off a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships two weekends ago … In that race, senior Dylan McKean and junior Breydan Hann led ONU finishing 28th and 29th of 169 runners with times of 26:34.0 and 26:40.8, respectively …ONU's five other scoring runners finished in each consecutive places from 31st to 35th place including freshman Isaac Leighninger finishing 31st in 26:45.8, senior Patrick Baker crossed the line next in 26:47.7, and senior Travis Sutter was 33rd in 26:48.9 ... The Polar Bears finished 7th at the 2019 Regional Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich., as the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
