ADA — Ohio Northern junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) was named the NCAA Division III Men's Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year for 2017 in voting conducted by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Runner of the Year.
McVey won the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Championships and the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships individual titles, becoming the first ONU runner to accomplish the feat.
He is a two-time All-Great Lakes Region honoree and was named the OAC Runner of the Year in 2016.
McVey's career-best time of 24:55 ranks him fifth on ONU's all-time career list for 8,000-meters.
McVey and the Polar Bears are 113-19 on the season and received an at-large bid to the NCAA III Championships on Saturday at Elsah, Ill., under 9th-year head coach Jason Maus.
