ONU Race Notes: The 17th-ranked Ohio Northern men's cross country team will open its 2017 season at the Bluffton 6k race at the Bluffton Nature Preserve in Bluffton, Ohio ... The women will run a 5k race at 6 pm with the men following with a 6k race at 6:45 pm ... Ninth-year head coach Jason Maus looks to lead the Polar Bears as they return five lettermen, and look to repeat as Ohio Athletic Conference champions for the third consecutive season ... The Polar Bears posted a 114-20 record last season, which was the third most wins under Maus' eight-year reign as head coach ... Northern will look to its upperclassmen to carry the load this season as the squad looks to compete for another OAC Championship ... Leading the list of returners is junior and 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Runner of the Year Ian McVey ... McVey led the Polar Bears to a 14th place team finish at the NCAA III Championships in 2016 as he narrowly missed All-America honors ... McVey finished third overall at the OAC Championships to earn First Team All-OAC honors ... Seniors Bobby Borger, Matt Molinaro and Samuel Boyd also make their return in 2017 ... The trio all earned Second Team All-OAC honors, respectively in 2016 ... Junior Spencer Schulze returns to the team after lettering and being named Second Team All-OAC in 2016 ... Northern has competed in the Bluffton 6k Invitational and has won the meet in each of its last four seasons.
