Rosenbaum qualifies for NCAAs; leads Men's Cross Country to 10th place finish at 2014 NCAA III Great Lakes Regional meet

MASON — Ohio Northern senior Nathan Rosenbaum used a late kick to earn his way into the NCAA Championships and lead Ohio Northern to a 10th place finish at the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Saturday morning at Mason.
Rosenbaum finished seventh overall out of 245 runners in 24:43 for the 8,000-meter course.
With his seventh place finish, he earns one of the seven automatic bids given to individuals to participate at the NCAA III Championships next Saturday on the same course in Mason.
The Polar Bears (120-37 overall) finished 10th of 37 teams with 290 points, marking their 10th consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Regional Championships meet.
Rosenbaum was in 14th place with just 800 meters to go, but used a big kick to pass seven runners to clinch a spot in his second consecutive NCAA III Championships appearance.
Sophomore Andrew Harden finished 46th in 25:24, sophomore Kase Schalois was 66th in 25:37 and junior William Huddleston was 80th in 25:50 for ONU.
The top 35 individuals earn All-Region honors.
No. 15-ranked Wabash (Ind.) won the team title with 46 points and Mount Union was second with 135 points to earn the two automatic bids to the NCAA III Championships.
Rose-Hulman (Ind.) was third with 148 points and No. 22 Calvin (Mich.) was fourth with 157 points and will have to wait to see if they receive one of the 16 at-large bids given nationwide.
Rosenbaum will be making his second trip to the NCAA III Championships after finishing 152nd in 26:14.
He also won the NCAA's prestigious Elite 89 Award in 2013 as the student-athlete with the highest GPA competing at the championships.
