Bio

Stephan Johnson is in his sixth season as an assistant coach for the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field program.

In 2018, Johnson helped guide Maddy Reed to the NCAA Outdoor Championships pole vault title.

Reed recorded four consecutive All-American seasons during the 2017 and 2018 indoor and outdoor campaigns under Johnson's guidance. She ended fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2018 and posted third-place efforts at both the indoor and outdoor national championships during the 2017 season.

Johnson has also coached Maggie Krause to four straight NCAA Championships during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Krause posted an eighth-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships and a career-best, seventh-place effort at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships to earn All-America honors under Johnson's tutelage.

He also coached Allison Stevens to her first NCAA Championships appearance in 2019, where she finished 12th overall.

Johnson brings experience from his time as a track & field student-athlete and coach at Baldwin Wallace. As a student-athlete, he was an eight-time conference qualifier in the pole vault and a conference champion in the same event during the 2007 outdoor season. He was also a conference qualifier in the men's javelin throw as an athlete. As a coach, he worked closely with the jumps coaches to further develop the skills of female pole vaulters. He also has experience in the recruiting process, having been an assistant recruiter while at Baldwin Wallace.  

Before coming to Ohio Northern, the assistant coach volunteered at Mount Union, where he worked with the pole vault and long jump athletes.

Johnson graduated from Baldwin Wallace with a bachelor's degree in biology in May 2007. He earned his Master's of Education from the University of Notre Dame in May 2011.

He currently resides in Ada.
