Dean breaks own record in 200 as Men's Track and Field takes small group to compete at the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Senior All-American Jordan Dean (Cleveland/Villa Angela-Saint Joseph) broke his own school record in the 200-meter dash to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team at the Ashland Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday.

The Basics

  • Record: Ohio Northern (31-2 Overall).
  • Venue: Kelly Family Sports Center - Allendale, Mich. 
  • The meet was not scored.

Meet Results

  • The meet consisted of 16 events, including six field events, 9 running events and the 4x400 relay.
  • At least 63 teams from NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA schools had athletes compete in the event.

Top ONU Performers

  • Dean finished 12th of 23 in the 200 in a school-record :21.86. He broke his previous record of :22.02 set earlier this season.
  • He was also 10th of 31 runners in the 60-meter dash in 6.96 seconds.
  • Senior Trey Masterson (Tiffin/Hopewell-Loudon) was fourth of 24 in section #3 of the 5,000-meter run in 14:37.04.
  • Junior Connor Robbins (Marion/River Valley) was eighth of 18 in the shot put in a personal-best 14.87 meters and tied for seventh of 18 in the weight throw at 16.24 meters.
  • Senior Ryan Massie (Beavercreek) was 27th of 33 in the 3,000 in a personal-best 8:34.02.

Notables

  • Four ONU men and 12 ONU women competed at Grand Valley State on Friday night.
  • Dean becomes the first Polar Bear to break 22 seconds in the indoor 200, surpassing his own record of :22.02.
  • Massie is now third all-time in ONU history in the 3k with his 8:34.02 clocking.
  • Robbins' shot put of 48' 9.5" moves him into seventh all-time on ONU's list.
  • The remainder of the team will compete at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday at Otterbein.
  • Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 682-160 in men's indoor track and field for a winning percentage of .810.
