This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs kick off their respective 2019 outdoor campaigns this Saturday, March 23 at the Muskingum Invitational ... The meet begins Friday afternoon with the hammer throw and javelin competitions at 3:30 p.m. at McConagha Stadium in New Concord ... The invitational resumes on Saturday morning with field events and running events starting at 11 a.m. ... Last season, the Polar Bears posted a 36-16 overall record during the outdoor season and ended third at the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships ... The program is coming off a 22-10 record during the 2019 indoor campaign and a fourth-place finish at the OAC Championships, held inside the ONU Sports Center in February ... Northern was recently selected to end fourth at the 2019 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the annual OAC Coaches Preseason Poll released last Friday ... Senior All-American Ian McVey guided the Ohio Northern efforts during the indoor season, earning All-American honors in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Boston, Massachusetts ... He was also the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, an OAC Champion in the 3,000-meter run, an All-Great Lakes Region and All-OAC honoree, and an OAC Track Athlete of the Week ... Freshman sprinter Nate Dean also competed at the NCAA Championships, winding up 17th in the 400-meter dash ... He was awarded All-OAC honors in the same event after finishing second at the indoor conference meet ... The Polar Bears earned four additional All-Conference kudos during the indoor campaign as junior Andrew Shelton (1,000), sophomore Sam Krabacher (800), freshman pole vault specialist Luke Shellhaas, and the 4x400-meter relay squad of Krabacher, Donovin Moran, Cody Benny, and Colin McCullough ended among the league's top-three finishers.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is currently in his 10th season leading the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs at Ohio Northern ... He enters the outdoor campaign with a 398-117-2 overall record in men's outdoor track and field competitions, a .772 win percentage.
