Ian McVey earns All-America honors in the 5k; Nate Dean finishes 17th in the 400 at the NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships

ADA — Senior All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) earned All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run for the second consecutive year and freshman Nate Dean (Euclid/Villa Angela Saint Joseph) finished 4th in his heat and 17th overall in the 400-meter dash Friday evening at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
McVey finished seventh of 20 runners on 14:34.94 to earn All-America honors with his top-8 finish.
He was a returning All-American in the event, finishing fifth in 2018 indoors in 14:34.21. McVey is also a two-time All-American in cross country, finishing fifth at this fall's championship in 24:37 and 10th at the 2017 meet in 24:37.
Dean finished 17th of 20 runners in the 400-meter dash in 49.934 seconds.
He entered the meet with the 18th-fastest time in the 20-man field at :48.75.
"We had a very good meet," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "All five of our athletes performed well. We had two returning All-Americans that got back on the podium and had some newcomers that handled their first NCAA appearance well. All of our athletes should be proud of their performances today."
The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
