Friday's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's track and field program will raise the curtain on its 2019 indoor season this Friday, January 18 when the Polar Bears compete in the Tiffin Dragon Open, hosted by NCAA Division II institution Tiffin University ... The meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start time inside the Heminger Center with the men competing in the long jump, shot put, high jump, and distance medley relay events ... Friday night's meet was previously scheduled for Saturday, January 19, but impending winter weather from Winter Storm Harper has forced the competition to be moved one day prior ... Last season, ONU compiled a 69-33 overall record and captured third-place team finishes at the indoor and outdoor OAC Championships ... Head Coach Jason Maus and his staff welcome back 16 previous letterwinners, three All-OAC honorees, two OAC champions, and a former All-American and All-Great Lakes Region selection in senior distance runner Ian McVey ... McVey returns to the Polar Bears after earning his first track and field All-American honor in the indoor 5,000-meter run in 2018 ... The eight-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree has also been tabbed to the All-Great Lakes Region squad seven times, claimed three OAC event championship titles, and recorded two school records in the indoor 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs ... Additionally, senior distance runner Spencer Schulze and junior mid-distance runner Andrew Shelton will return this season as former All-OAC honorees ... Schulze has been named to the All-OAC squads twice, earning the honors in 2016 and 2017 in the outdoor 10,000-meter runs ... Meanwhile, Shelton joined McVey on the outdoor 4x800-meter relay team that won an event title during the 2018 campaign.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus enters his 10th season leading the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs at Ohio Northern ... He currently owns a 444-114 record during the men's indoor season, a .796 win percentage.
