WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) was the first collegian to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon as he competed in the Camel City Elite Races at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The senior finished third overall in the event as he was edged by Eliud Rutto and Drew Piazza, both professional competitors in the event.
Molinaro bested his collegiate counterparts in Div. I-foes Stefano Migliorati and Ryan Hastings in the event, finishing in 1:51.71. His time is currently the fastest time in the country among Div. III competitors.
"Matt had a pretty good race," said head coach Jason Maus. "He got good position early on and ran a tactical race. It was a pretty slow race and Matt got stuck there towards the end and wasn't really able to get out. Overall this was a great opener for him this season and he has a lot to be proud of."
