Eight named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for Men's Track & Field

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's track and field team landed eight members on the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference list.
Seniors Cully Gordon (Holmesville/West Holmes), Evan Murtha (Pickerington/North), Adam Smith (Rocky River), A.J. Cody (Findlay/Liberty-Benton), Matthew Hommer (Swartz Creek, Mich./Lake Fenton), Zane Augustine (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and juniors Alexander Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.) and Luke Bogdanovich (Akron/Coventry) each earned the honor.
Gordon, a Mechanical Engineering major, earns the honor for the second consecutive season.
The senior was recently named the Clyde A. Lamb Award winner, representing Ohio Northern's male athletes.
Gordon narrowly missed All-OAC honors during the indoor OAC Championships as he finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run.
He also placed at the outdoor OAC Championships as he finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run.
Murtha, a Pharmacy major, also earns the honor for the second consecutive season.
Murtha ran a career-best time of 2:01.11 in the 800-meter run this season.
The senior also competed in the 1,500-meter run during the outdoor season.
Smith, a Mechanical Engineering major, was named Academic All-OAC for the second straight season.
The senior pole vaulter finished seventh in the event during the outdoor OAC Championships.
Smith is also the reigning Muskie Duals pole vault champion.
Cody is a Mechanical Engineering major, and earned the third Academic All-OAC honor of his career.
The senior set career marks in both the discus and shot put during the 2017 outdoor season.
Hommer, a Biology major, earned the honor for the first time in his career.
The senior sprinter ran a career-best fastest time of :11.64 in the 100-meter dash during the 2017 outdoor season and also set a career-best time of :23.31 in the 200-meter dash during the outdoor season.
Augustine, a Pharmacy major, earns his second career Academic All-OAC honor.
The senior placed sixth during the outdoor OAC Championships in the shot put for Northern.
Sibila, an Electrical Engineering major, earns the honor for the second consecutive season.
The junior high jumper narrowly missed All-Conference honors at the outdoor OAC Championships as he finished fourth.
Bogdanovich, a Pharmacy major earned the accolade for the second consecutive season.
The junior posted a pair of sixth place finishes at the outdoor OAC Championships in both the javelin and high jump.
Bogdanovich also posted a sixth place finish in the high jump at the indoor OAC Championships.
Northern returns to action this weekend as it competes in the 2017 Outdoor National Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
