Senior Kase Schalois and sophomore Ian McVey leads Men's Indoor Track & Field on opening day of OAC Championships

BEREA — Senior Kase Schalois (Van Wert) and sophomore Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished first and second in the 3,000-meter run to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team Friday evening during day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
Schalois narrowly edged out his teammate as he won the event in 8:57.29, while McVey finished second in 8:57.48.
In the distance medley relay, the team of senior Andrew Harden (Dayton/Vandalia-Butler), juniors Alec Lunney (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and sophomore Corey Briggs (Lima/Bath) finished first in 10:26.26.
Junior Conner Karg (West Liberty/Salem) advanced to the finals on Saturday in the 400-meter dash as he finished third in :51.00.
Freshman Jacob Vires (Monroe) advanced to the finals on Saturday in the 55-meter dash, as he finished fifth in the event in :6.56.
Vires also advanced to the finals in the 200-meter dash, finishing eighth in :22.90.
After one day of events, Northern sits in second place with 34 points, while Mount Union leads the men's side of the meet with 62.5 points, and John Carroll sits in third place with 25 points.
"The men were really rolling today," said head coach Jason Maus. "We had a lot of great marks today and our distance crew was just lights out for us. We are building a lot of momentum for tomorrow and we are excited about getting back at it tomorrow."
The Polar Bears return to action tomorrow afternoon as they compete in day two of the OAC Championships at Harrison Dillard Track.
