Men's Indoor Track & Field finishes 2nd of 14 at Joe Banks Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's track and field team took second place Saturday afternoon as it competed in the annual Joe Banks Invitational at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) posted a new meet record in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:54.39 to lead Northern.
In the weight throw, senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) took first place with a toss of 57' 6.25".
The team of seniors Kase Schalois (Van Wert), Cully Gordon (Holmesville/West Holmes), juniors Samuel Boyd (Killbuck/West Holmes) and Bobby Borger (Perrysburg) set a new Joe Banks Invitational record in the distance medley relay by nearly ten seconds in 10:40.69.
In the long jump, freshman David Harvey (Mechanicsburg) finished third with a career-best leap of 20' 10.00".
Freshman Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South) took third place in the 1,000-meter run in 2:41.52.
In the 200-meter dash junior Conner Karg (West Liberty/Salem) finished third and ran a career-fastest time of :23.21.
"We had a lot of good things happen today for our men," said head coach Jason Maus. "The guys are really starting to build some momentum and things are really starting to come together."
The Polar Bears return to the track Saturday as they travel to Westerville to compete in the All-Ohio Championships.
